William Cartar

Will is a physics geek turned data lover, with a side passion for finance and startups. He studied applied theoretical physics at Queen’s, where he was introduced to computer science and startups. By day, he’d write his thesis, and at night he worked on a small e-commerce startup that would eventually become Juniper Creates, a now successful bespoke merchandising business, where he serves on the Board.

When he found his calling in data, he pivoted from startups to credit cards, and left Juniper for a role as a Data Scientist at Capital One. For over four years, he worked on a variety of business problems, ranging from credit decision models, to data engineering, to internal data science tooling. At Payson, Will has built ML models for financial institutions and has worked to source, clean, and transform large datasets for model building, monitoring, and analysis.

Outside of work, you can find Will camping in the outback, racing down the nearest ski hill, or digging deep at pickup volleyball. He’s always up for a new adventure!
